The SOR4D programme invites researchers and non-academic actors from policy and practice to collaborate in transnational and transdisciplinary consortia.

About the Programme

The SOR4D programme supports transdisciplinary projects with solution-oriented approaches that contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and reducing poverty.

It supports researchers from Switzerland in developing concrete innovative solutions for global challenges, together with researchers and practice partners from partner countries in the Global South.

The programme is open to all disciplines, including:

  • Humanities
  • Social sciences
  • Natural sciences
  • Engineering
  • Life sciences
  • Health sciences

Proposals must explicitly target systemic solutions that simultaneously address several of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.

Thematic Focus

The call focuses on the following areas:

  • Peace and good governance
  • Human development
  • Climate and environment
  • Sustainable economic development

Funding and Duration

  • Total funding available: 22.4 million Swiss francs is available for the SOR4D programme
  • Research phase duration: three or four years
  • Additional Funding: Projects can apply for Transformation Accelerating Grants

Important Information

  • There will be only one call for this second SOR4D phase.
  • The project selection consists of a two-stage process.
  • Pre-proposal submission deadline: 18 May 2026, 5:00 PM (Swiss local time)
