The fellowship offers fixed-term, full-time placements within AU institutions. Selected fellows are embedded as professionals contributing to digital transformation, strengthening data-informed decision-making, and advancing public sector innovation at the continental level.
Each fellowship position includes clearly defined terms of reference outlining:
- Objectives of the role and expected deliverables
- Required and preferred qualifications, including technical competencies
- Host AU institution and functional domain
- Assignment duration and duty station
- Reporting structure and scope of collaboration

Open Fellowship Positions
The AU Digital & Innovation Fellowship is currently recruiting junior to mid-level professionals across 12 specialized technical tracks. Candidates are encouraged to select the fellowship opportunity that best matches their technical skillset and professional aspirations.
1. Data Analytics & Monitoring Systems Fellow
This role strengthens data-driven decision-making within the African Ministers’ Council on Water (AMCOW). Fellows will support the Water and Sanitation Sector Monitoring (WASSMO) System by enhancing data collection, analytical processes, and reporting mechanisms. Responsibilities include dashboard development, refinement of monitoring frameworks, and advising on system improvements to ensure robust reporting and sustainable institutional capacity in water and sanitation governance across Africa.
2. Digital Product & Programme Systems Fellow
This position enhances institutional coordination and digital collaboration within the AUDA-NEPAD Coordination Unit to support continental development priorities. Fellows will manage and optimize digital collaboration tools to improve alignment across major AU portfolio programmes, including PIDA, SIFA, and CAADP. The role applies systems design and product management principles to streamline technical workflows and strengthen evidence-based decision-making and digital innovation across AU institutions.
3. Digital Communications Fellow
This role strengthens the digital engagement and communications capacity of the Cabinet of the Deputy Chairperson to increase institutional visibility. Fellows will manage official social media channels, translating complex diplomatic and policy work into accessible and impactful digital content. The position includes coordination with AU directorates and analysis of engagement trends to ensure strategic coherence and responsiveness across the Union.
4. ERP SAP and Business Intelligence Fellow
This position supports the digital transformation and technical lifecycle management of the AU’s ERP Unit. Fellows will provide SAP-related support by developing interactive platforms, dashboards, and automated workflows using Power Apps and ABAP. The focus is on optimizing integrations and system configurations to ensure operational reliability and real-time analytics for core institutional functions.
5. ESTI Full-stack development Fellow
This position supports the digital transformation and technical lifecycle management of the AU’s ERP Unit. Fellows will provide SAP-related support by developing interactive platforms, dashboards, and automated workflows using Power Apps and ABAP. The focus is on optimizing integrations and system configurations to ensure operational reliability and real-time analytics for core institutional functions.
6. HR Digital Systems and Processes Analyst Fellow
This position modernizes AU human capital management systems by optimizing HR digital tools and processes. Fellows will support SAP SuccessFactors through workflow automation and dashboard development grounded in data analytics. The role emphasizes process mapping and UX/UI improvements to create a streamlined, user-centered digital environment for staff.
7. ICD Full-stack developer Fellow
This position modernizes AU human capital management systems by optimizing HR digital tools and processes. Fellows will support SAP SuccessFactors through workflow automation and dashboard development grounded in data analytics. The role emphasizes process mapping and UX/UI improvements to create a streamlined, user-centered digital environment for staff.
8. MIS Business Analyst Fellow
This position supports the Management Information Systems (MIS) Directorate in optimizing the AU Commission’s digital infrastructure. Fellows will conduct business analyses to evaluate existing digital innovations and improve institutional workflows. Responsibilities include developing standard operating procedures and strategic blueprints to ensure structured and well-governed digital transformation.
9. MIS Full-Stack Developer Fellow
This position supports the Management Information Systems (MIS) Directorate in optimizing the AU Commission’s digital infrastructure. 10. ODG Data Analyst Fellow
This position enhances data-driven oversight within the Office of the Director General to improve operational performance. Fellows will design interactive dashboards that provide leadership with real-time access to consolidated reports from AU departments. The role focuses on establishing reporting standards and strategic data frameworks to reinforce evidence-based governance.
11. WGYD Data Analyst Fellow
This position enhances data-driven oversight within the Office of the Director General to improve operational performance. Fellows will design interactive dashboards that provide leadership with real-time access to consolidated reports from AU departments. The role focuses on establishing reporting standards and strategic data frameworks to reinforce evidence-based governance.
12. WGYD Full-stack Developer Fellow
This position modernizes digital systems within the Women, Gender, and Youth Directorate to advance inclusive empowerment initiatives. Fellows will build interactive portals and customized APIs to eliminate data silos and enable real-time tracking of continental programmes. The role focuses on workflow automation and embedding technical expertise to ensure sustainable, data-driven digital architecture.

The AU Digital & Innovation Fellowship 2026/2027 is developed and hosted by the African Union and implemented by enpact, with support from the GIZ DataCipation programme, commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
