Description

Overview

The Supercell Developer Grants Program supports exceptional game development studios across Africa by providing non-dilutive funding to help them grow, develop high-quality games, and contribute to the expansion of Africa’s gaming ecosystem.

The programme focuses on supporting studios rather than individual projects, with investment centred on strong teams, creative vision, sustainable growth plans, and the long-term development of game companies across the continent.

Objectives

The programme aims to:

  • Support talented African game development studios in reaching their next stage of growth.
  • Strengthen the emerging games ecosystem across Africa.
  • Enable studios to develop innovative games across different platforms, genres, and business models.
  • Provide resources that help teams build sustainable game development businesses.

Eligible Applicants

Applications are open to:

  • Legally registered game development studios.
  • Studios whose primary operations and majority of team members are based in Africa.
  • Teams developing games across any platform, genre, or business model.

The programme does not accept applications from:

  • Individual developers.
  • Hobby projects.
  • Unregistered teams.

Funding Support

The grants are non-dilutive, meaning Supercell does not take equity, ownership, or intellectual property rights in supported studios or games.

Funding can support activities such as:

  • Salaries and team expansion.
  • Contractors and external expertise.
  • Game art, design, engineering, audio, and quality assurance.
  • Software, tools, and development resources.
  • Marketing and live operations.
  • Other activities directly supporting studio and game development.

Focus Areas

The programme welcomes studios with:

  • Strong and capable development teams.
  • Original and ambitious game concepts.
  • Evidence of player engagement and community development.
  • Clear plans for using funding to accelerate growth.
  • Potential to contribute to a sustainable African gaming ecosystem.

Applications may include games across:

  • Mobile, PC, console, or other platforms.
  • Premium, free-to-play, hybrid, and other business models.

Application Requirements

Applicants are encouraged to prepare:

  • Pitch deck.
  • Gameplay trailer or video.
  • Playable build (optional).
  • Links to previous games or portfolio.
  • High-level funding plan and budget.

Application Period

Applications are open from 6 July 2026 until 9 August 2026 (23:59 UTC).

Additional Information

Selected studios will enter into a grant agreement with Supercell and may be required to provide progress updates related to the milestones outlined in their application.

The programme represents an opportunity for African game studios to access growth funding, increase visibility, and strengthen their position within the global games industry.
