Descrição

Applications are now open for startups and SMEs developing hydrogen production technologies alternative to PEM and alkaline electrolysis.

Innovative startups and small and medium-sized enterprises active in the hydrogen sector are invited to apply to the first open call of the H2SHIFT project, which supports the development and validation of novel hydrogen production technologies.

About H2SHIFT

H2SHIFT brings together industrial partners, universities, and research centres within a single, integrated innovation ecosystem. The project provides services covering the full innovation lifecycle, from laboratory testing and simulation to business development support. It is designed for startups and SMEs across the hydrogen value chain that are developing technological solutions alternative to existing market offerings, including approaches that leverage underexploited energy sources.

Access to services is provided through a system of cascading open calls, managed via the Single Entry Point (SEP), which serves as the sole access channel for applicants. Through this mechanism, selected companies receive subsidised access to H2SHIFT’s development platforms and expertise.

Development Platforms Available in the First Open Call

Applicants selected under the first open call will gain access to one of the following platforms:

  • Politecnico di Torino: Test infrastructures for direct hydrogen production from solar energy
  • Youwind: Software tools for modelling hydrogen production in offshore wind environments
  • Resolvent: Multiphysics simulation platform supporting design optimisation and scale-up of hydrogen production technologies

Application Process

Applicants are required to complete an online application form, accompanied by a video presentation of their innovation. After the 18 March 2026 deadline, the H2SHIFT consortium will evaluate all submissions and invite shortlisted candidates for interviews.

Four companies will be selected in this call, with one beneficiary assigned to each development platform.

Selected companies will work for up to six months with experts from Politecnico di Torino, Youwind, and Resolvent. A second open call, planned for the end of 2026, will open access to the full set of H2SHIFT test lines and services and is expected to support eight additional startups and/or SMEs.
