About BIOFIN and Zambia’s Biodiversity Investment Readiness Support Programme
BIOFIN is a global initiative implemented by UNDP to support countries in identifying, developing, and implementing innovative finance solutions for biodiversity conservation.
BIOFIN’s activities in Zambia include implementing the Biodiversity Investment Readiness Support Programme, which seeks to enhance Zambia’s capacity to prepare and promote bankable biodiversity projects capable of attracting funding from a range of private and philanthropic sources.
What the Programme Offers
UNDP BIOFIN is providing support to project developers and sponsors to strengthen the bankability of their biodiversity projects and enhance their ability to attract financing. The Programme will provide:
- Specialised guidance on preparing and submitting funding proposals to targeted funders and investors
- Capacity-building support to help project developers structure and present viable, investment-ready projects
All technical support is provided at no financial cost to participants.
Why Participate?
Participation enables organisations to improve bankability, align with investor expectations, and enhance access to potential financing from private and philanthropic sources. It also enables organisations to contribute to Zambia’s national biodiversity and development priorities, as reflected in the Global Biodiversity Framework, Zambia’s Green Growth Strategy, and the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), while advancing nature-positive and inclusive economic growth.
Who Can Apply?
Expressions of Interest are welcome from:
- Corporations, private sector companies, MSMEs, financial institutions, and public entities seeking to fund biodiversity-positive projects and activities
- Project developers and organisations operating in biodiversity conservation and promotion sectors
EOIs will be assessed on several criteria, including financial viability, impact and biodiversity/nature-based solutions quality, safeguards and risk management, and institutional capacity and enabling environment considerations.
How to Apply
To express interest, complete the online questionnaire via the link below, which captures details of your project. Organisations are encouraged to share the link with others that may also benefit from this initiative. All responses will be kept strictly confidential.
