The European Partnership on Raw Materials (RAMP) has launched its first Joint Transnational Call 2026 to support collaborative research and innovation projects that strengthen sustainable and resilient raw materials systems for the green and digital transition.

The call brings together 40 funding organisations from 27 countries, with a combined budget of almost EUR 41 million under Horizon Europe.

Objectives

RAMP seeks projects that improve access to raw materials while promoting circular economy practices, sustainability, and reduced social and environmental impacts. Proposals should:

• Contribute to innovation and industrial development across the raw materials value chain.
• Connect different stages of the supply chain through interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Engage relevant stakeholders and align with European policy priorities.
• Support resilient and sustainable raw materials systems.

Thematic Areas

Applicants must select one main topic that best reflects their project’s objectives:

1. Ensuring a resilient supply of raw materials from primary sources – sustainable exploration, extraction, refining, processing, and environmental and social impact assessment.
2. Targeting secondary sources to enhance access to raw materials – recycling, urban mining, recovery from end-of-life products, industrial waste, and landfills.
3. Efficient and effective use of raw materials in design and production – resource-efficient manufacturing, sustainable product design, reuse, recycling, substitution of critical raw materials, and digital traceability tools.
4. Overcoming technological barriers to circularity – technologies supporting repair, refurbishment, remanufacturing, reuse, repurposing, and reverse logistics.
5. Putting circular economy ambitions into action – addressing regulatory, economic, behavioural, and social barriers through business models, policy solutions, and consumer engagement.
6. Innovative approaches for analysing raw materials value chains – data management, life cycle assessment, financial modelling, supply chain transparency, and stress testing.

Across all topics, proposals should integrate cross-cutting considerations such as gender balance and diversity, social acceptance, Safe and Sustainable by Design principles, and open science practices.

Who Can Apply?

The call is open to transnational consortia consisting of at least three partners requesting funding from three participating countries, with at least two partners from EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries.

Eligible organisations include universities, higher education institutions, public and private research organisations, SMEs and large companies, consultancies, municipalities, public authorities, NGOs, stakeholder associations, and foundations. Organisations not eligible for funding may participate as self-funded partners in addition to the minimum consortium requirements.

Funding

• Total available budget: Approximately EUR 41 million
• Funding is provided directly by each participating national or regional funding organisation according to its own eligibility rules.
• Applicants are strongly encouraged to consult their National Contact Point before preparing a proposal, as funding conditions vary by country.

Application Process

The call follows a two-stage application process:

Stage 1 – Pre-proposal: Consortia submit a pre-proposal, which undergoes eligibility checks and international expert evaluation. Successful applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal.

Stage 2 – Full proposal: Invited consortia submit a detailed proposal, which is subject to eligibility checks, international evaluation, and ethics review. Final funding decisions are made based on evaluation results and available budgets.

The consortium coordinator must submit proposals through the Electronic Submission and Evaluation System. Some national or regional funders may also require separate applications.

The call includes funding organisations from 27 countries, including Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada (Québec), Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Moldova, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Türkiye.
