Overview

The AWIEF Pitch n Grow 2026 competition is the flagship entrepreneurship programme of the African Women Innovation and Entrepreneurship Forum (AWIEF), designed to identify, support, and promote high-potential women-led ventures across Africa. The programme combines training, mentorship, business development, and pitching opportunities to help founders accelerate venture growth and increase their visibility.

The 2026 edition focuses on deep technology solutions developed to address African challenges through locally relevant innovation.

Purpose and Strategic Focus

The programme aims to strengthen Africa’s women-led innovation ecosystem by supporting entrepreneurs developing technology-based solutions to regional challenges. It seeks to improve access to mentorship, business development, networks, investment opportunities, and public visibility while encouraging the application of deep technologies within African markets.

The 2026 edition places particular emphasis on innovations that combine advanced technologies with deep understanding of local contexts and development needs.

The competition prioritises ventures applying deep technology across strategic sectors, including:

  • Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
  • AgriTech
  • HealthTech
  • Clean Energy
  • Water Technology

  • Cybersecurity

  • Smart Cities
  • Circular Economy
  • Frontier Technologies (including satellite applications and autonomous systems)

Applicants compete within one of three development stages:

  • Idea Track: Early concepts with prototypes or proof of concept.
  • Startup Track: Registered early-stage businesses with customers and initial revenue.
  • Scale-Up Track: Established ventures demonstrating significant revenue or institutional investment and regional expansion.

Participation / Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Identify as a woman founder or co-founder.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be a citizen, resident, or registered business operator in an African country.
  • Operate a venture built around a deep technology component.
  • Primarily serve African markets.
  • Commit to attending the live finals at the AWIEF 2026 Conference if selected.

Mixed-gender founding teams are eligible provided that the pitching representative is a woman co-founder.

Applications are not eligible if:

  • The venture has no technology component.
  • The business operates entirely outside Africa without African activities.
  • The female applicant is not a legal founder or co-owner.

Outputs / Activities / Format

Participants progress through a structured venture acceleration programme comprising:

  • Orientation webinars
  • Entrepreneurial training bootcamp
  • Virtual judging rounds
  • Individual mentorship and pitch preparation
  • Live pitch competition during the AWIEF 2026 Conference

Finalists also receive opportunities such as:

  • Travel support to attend the finals
  • Media and promotional exposure
  • Pitching before investors and ecosystem stakeholders
  • Cash prizes for competition winners

Selection / Evaluation

Applications are screened through a multi-stage competitive process. Initial applications are shortlisted from approximately 200 ventures to around 70 teams, followed by virtual judging to identify 12 finalists.

Evaluation is based on the venture’s stage of development, alignment with the 2026 deep technology theme, innovation potential, and readiness for growth within African markets.

Strategic Relevance

Pitch n Grow 2026 contributes to strengthening Africa’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem by supporting women-led technology ventures addressing priority development challenges. Through investment readiness, business acceleration, and ecosystem connections, the programme promotes inclusive innovation while expanding opportunities for women entrepreneurs in emerging deep technology sectors across the continent.
