Maelezo

Overview

The develoPPP Classic programme supports companies implementing projects in developing countries and emerging markets that combine business interests with sustainable development impact.

On behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), projects are implemented in cooperation with either DEG Impulse gGmbH or GIZ.

The programme operates through an open ideas competition held twice a year.

What Types of Projects Are Supported?

develoPPP Classic supports entrepreneurial projects in more than 60 developing countries and emerging markets that contribute to improving local economic, environmental or social conditions.

Examples mentioned by the programme include:

  • Sustainable and resilient supply chains
  • Training and qualification of local skilled workers
  • Sustainable agricultural systems
  • Long-term food security
  • Climate and environmental protection

Projects must meet the programme’s participation requirements and go beyond an investment solely in the company’s core business.

Who Can Apply?

The competition is open to companies that meet the develoPPP Classic conditions of participation.

Applicants should verify the programme’s detailed company and project eligibility requirements before applying. The application also requires two current audited annual financial statements from the applicant company.

Implementing Partners

Applicants submit their proposal through one of two implementing partners:

DEG Impulse gGmbH – particularly brings financial and entrepreneurial expertise, experience supporting companies in developing and emerging markets, and connections within the KfW Group.

GIZ – brings technical and regional expertise, implementation experience and extensive networks with governments, public institutions, donors and businesses in partner countries.

The appropriate implementing partner depends on the objectives and structure of the proposed project.

Application Process

The process begins with confirming eligibility and developing the project concept. Applications are then submitted through the programme’s central application platform during the competition window.

Following the deadline, proposals undergo an initial assessment and pre-selection, expected to take approximately six weeks. Selected applicants then develop a more detailed project concept with their implementing partner before a final assessment and contracting stage.

The programme advises applicants to anticipate approximately six months between application and project start.

Key Dates

Current application window: 15 August – 30 September 2026
Application deadline: 30 September 2026

The ideas competition is normally organised twice annually, during 15 February – 31 March and 15 August – 30 September.
