The Stellenbosch Climate-Smart Farming Support Programme is a targeted agricultural support initiative designed to help emerging and smallholder farmers in the Stellenbosch region adopt climate-smart farming practices through access to digital tools, environmental insights, and technical training.
The programme is delivered through a collaboration between Stellenbosch Municipality, Stellenbosch Network, and TerraClim.
Location: Stellenbosch region, Western Cape, South Africa
Duration: 12 months
Number of participants: 10 farmers will be selected
Programme Benefits
Selected farmers will receive 12 months of access to the TerraClim Web App, including:
- Personalised farm profile and secure login
- Farm boundary setup and platform onboarding support
- Access to climate and environmental data layers
- Crop suitability and land potential analysis tools
- Climate risk insights including drought, heat and extreme weather
- Training guide and introductory workshop
- Tools to generate planning and development reports
- Support for farm planning, financing and insurance readiness
Programme Objectives
The programme aims to support climate-smart agriculture adoption; improve farm planning and land use decision-making; strengthen climate resilience for smallholder farmers; support sustainable agricultural enterprise development; improve productivity and environmental sustainability; and enhance access to climate and environmental data.
Eligibility
The programme is open to smallholder farmers, emerging farmers, agricultural cooperatives, farming initiatives, local agricultural producers, and individuals or groups seeking to develop agricultural land. Applicants may be involved in any crop type or farming activity. The programme is open exclusively to farmers located in the Stellenbosch region, Western Cape, South Africa.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must provide:
- Completed application form
- South African ID or valid identification
- Proof of land access (lease, title deed or municipal letter)
- Farm or company profile (location, size and activities)
- Basic farming experience (formal or informal)
- Short motivation outlining challenges and interest in climate-smart practices
